  8.        3.  _C_h_a_n_g_e_s__a_n_d__A_d_d_i_t_i_o_n_s

  10.        This chapter lists the changes and additions made to
  11.        MediaMail since the 3.2 release.
  12.  
  13.        3.1  _S_e_n_d_i_n_g__L_a_r_g_e__M_e_s_a_g_e_s
  14.  
  15.        Sending very large messages or messages with large
  16.        attachments, such as movies or 3D models, is now better
  17.        supported by MediaMail.  Some mail systems can not receive
  18.        these large messages. MediaMail now allows you to send large
  19.        messages splitting them into pieces of approximately 250 K,
  20.        by default. If the recipient uses MediaMail the pieces will
  21.        be reassembled once they are delivered. Note, Other MIME-
  22.        compliant mail programs may also provide this reassembly
  23.        feature.  Message splitting options are controlled by the
  24.        variables _s_p_l_i_t__s_i_z_e, _s_p_l_i_t__l_i_m_i_t, and the _s_p_l_i_t__s_e_n_d option
  25.        to the _v_e_r_i_f_y variable.

  27.           +o The _s_p_l_i_t__l_i_m_i_t variable controls when MediaMail gives
  28.             you the option to split the message. A dialog is posted
  29.             when the size of the attachment exceeds the variable's
  30.             minimum size setting. The variable is set to 250 K by
  31.             default. The dialog allows you to choose to split the
  32.             message or send it whole.

  34.           +o The _s_p_l_i_t__s_i_z_e variable controls the size of each
  35.             message part. The variable is set to 250 by default.

  37.           +o The _s_p_l_i_t__s_e_n_d_m_a_i_l variable specifies the name of a
  38.             script that hands the message parts to sendmail for
  39.             delivery.

  41.           +o The _s_p_l_i_t__s_e_n_d option of the _v_e_r_i_f_y variable, when set,
  42.             posts a the dialog asking you to confirm that you want
  43.             to split the message in pieces. If you unset this
  44.             option, MediaMail automatically splits the large
  45.             message without posting the dialog. Note, if you have
  46.             previously customized the _v_e_r_i_f_y variable, this option
  47.             will not be set by default.

  49.        3.2  _R_e_c_e_i_v_i_n_g__S_p_l_i_t__M_e_s_a_g_e_s

  51.        Some systems are not configured to receive messages that
  52.        exceed a particular size limit, so a very large message may
  53.        be sent in several smaller pieces. MediaMail now reassembles
  54.        messages which have been split into pieces as the pieces
  55.        arrive on your system.  When the pieces of a large message
  56.        begin arrivving, you receive a notification message. The
  57.        notification message has an attachment that you may use to
  58.        check the status of the incoming pieces. Once all the pieces

  74.        have arrived, they are reassembled and the entire large
  75.        message is delivered to your mailbox. Note, attachments
  76.        contained in reassembled messages behave slightly
  77.        differently than other attachments.  In particular, the
  78.        attachments are occupying space on your hard disk, in your
  79.        ~/Mail/detach.dir directory. If you delete the message, the
  80.        attachments will not be automatically deleted and will
  81.        continue to take up space on your disk. To delete them, open
  82.        a directory view of your ~/Mail/detach.dir directory and
  83.        drag the large files to the dumpster.  MediaMail reassembles
  84.        messages by using a .forward file in your home directory.
  85.        Refer to MediaMail online help for more information on the
  86.        .forward file.

  88.        3.3  _I_n_t_e_r_n_a_t_i_o_n_a_l_i_z_a_t_i_o_n
  89.  
  90.        MediaMail 3.2.1 has been localized and includes language
  91.        files for the following languages: Chinese, French, German,
  92.        Japanese, and Korean. If you have a language module
  93.        installed on your machine, MediaMail requires the
  94.        corresponding MediaMail language files be installed.
  95.  
  96.        MediaMail will NOT run if the appropriate language files are
  97.        not installed.

  99.        To install the appropriate language files:
  100.  
  101.          1.  Insert the MindShare CD into your CDROM drive, and
  102.              double-click on the CDROM icon on your desktop to open
  103.              the Software Manager, or
  104.  
  105.              Choose Software Manager from from the System Toolchest
  106.              menu, and type the path to the installation directory
  107.              in the Available Software field,
  108.  
  109.          2.  Click the "Custom Installation" button,
  110.  
  111.          3.  Click on the arrow next to "Product: MediaMail, 3.2.1"
  112.              to see the sub-systems,
  113.  
  114.          4.  Click on the install box next to the appropriate
  115.              MediaMail Language Files to select them for
  116.              installation, and
  117.  
  118.          5.  Click the "Start" button.
